In a recent NY Times article, In 15 Years, 80,000 Homes in the New York Area May Be Lost to Flooding, Mihir Zaveri and Hilary Howard are focused on the impact of flooding on NYC housing, but the fundamental story is that they are no plans on the table that actually would solve the lack of NYC housing.
The story’s subtitle — The metro region’s housing shortage is acute. But by 2040, dozens of neighborhoods and suburbs are likely to have lost thousands of homes to floods, a new report found — is misleading.
The headline is not indicative of the true story. Should be more like 'Stupidity of NYC region's Zoning Laws Makes Housing Even More Of A Problem In The Future Than Today Because of Climate Change Floods'.
All the plans being floated are inadequate to meet current and future housing needs. There seems to be no advocate who champions housing development to meet actual needs, because the gap is too large.
